Our third day was a HOT one. We went to Mackay to do the mine tour. I think it was about 100 degrees up there. Plus, there were a ton of people doing it. Alot of cars as well as 4-wheelers and side by sides. There were seven of us, so we tried to go fairly slow and not create alot of dust. Some people weren't nearly as considerate. They would blow past us and leave us in a cloud of dust that stuck to us...irratating.
We stopped at a place that we always eat lunch, and there was quite a stream coming down the hill side. Still snow drifts there also, so we had a little snowball fight. Jeff and I filled our cooler with snow and it immediately cooled our drinks way down. It was awesome.
It was obviously a bad winter. Several of the buildings had either totally collapsed, or the roofs had caved in. There were snow slides here also. One took out rails still hooked to ties, trees, a building...it was interesting. The building above, had the roof caved in. Last year it was in good shape. I was really blown away that it could go so quickly. Isn't the background beautiful though?
We went around on the back trail, which is only for 4-wheelers. I was afraid there would still be snow, but we didn't run into much. After we crossed this creek, Dave & Susan decided to wade in it. Susan said it was so cold , that she immediately lost feeling in her ankles. We all standing there for the photos and Steve revies up his bike and comes through the creek, drowning everyone! He didn't pose for many photos the bum. It was another super fun day. Only one more day to go, and we're all dreading coming back to work.
