Prizes for dutch oven cook-off

One of our customer's asked me if Columbia would donate prizes for the dutch oven cook-off at the fair.  We thought we could just donate some hats or something we had on hand, but Jeff decided that maybe we should do something a little more original.  So we did woven baskets with the fixings for a cobbler...done in a dutch oven.  I used some plaid fabric I had laying around to line each basket.  I asked Stephanie if she could make up a little poem to put on a tag for the baskets, and she didn't disappoint me.  It's amazing to me that I can ask almost every one of my kids to write a poem...and they could do it.  I can't do it at all.  But, I thought they turned out pretty cute.  I wrapped them up in cellophane and tied it with another piece of the plaid fabric.  When the lady came to pick up the prizes, I think she was very surprised and pleased with how they looked.  I hope so anyway.

Quilt top

This shows a little bit of the quilt top I finished making this weekend.  I had to run into town Saturday and buy 1/8 of a yard of the gray polka dot, and 1/4 of a yard of the cream on gray...I was certainly glad that they still had the fabric available.  Usually I buy fabric and then wait forever to make the quilt top...and I'm out of luck if I'm short.  I really like how this turned out, and I already have one granddaughter really liking it.

Another card or two

I think I posted a card like the top one, so I won't spend any time on it.  The bottom one though, is paper that I embossed and then sanded.  I like using the embossing folders, especially with paper that has a white core.  I don't think it's my favorite...but it isn't too bad.
Yesterday, Jeff & I rode the horses for awhile.  I rode Chief instead of Scout, and I think the bridle was too short and was hurting his mouth, because he just kept fighting it.  He kept getting more and more flighty.  He even started turning around trying to bite me.  I finally got off and just led him home.  It wasn't worth getting hurt over, but I was very disappointed in him and myself for giving up.  I felt like I let him "win".  Jeff & his dad are going to take them riding...maybe Wednesday up North Heglar.  Jeff let the bridle down, so maybe he'll be okay.  I sure hope so.
I finished the quilt top I've been working on.  Now I just need to get some fabric for the backing.  I really like how it turned out, and I already have a granddaughter saying it's the one she wants.  I keep telling them they can't pick, but...I guess it doesn't hurt to let them put in their "wish".
I spent some time taking in dresses for Braquel's wedding also.  Almost every dress had to have some kind of alterations.  Mainly just taking in the side seams.  We spent most of the time in my craft room, and I've decided I really have to PURGE....when my three year old granddaughter says..."how come this room is so messy"...I know it's time to clean it up!  Even if that means getting rid of some stuff.

L.O.V.E.

I wanted to finish the "love sweet Love", so I bought wooden letters in Twin Falls at GirlFriends.  The only problem was that they didn't have a V.  So, I had to cut out my own.  I wanted it to look like a heart, and it worked out fairly well, until I was finishing up with about the last cut....and the wood broke in half at the base.  I decided I would just glue it since I was covering it with paper anyway.  I thought it turned out okay.
Last night we went to the fair and rodeo.  Jeff REALLY did NOT want to go, but he went...just because I wanted to.  It wasn't too bad, but there sure were alot of contestants that didn't show up.  They announced a couple of times, that they had 42-45 people with injuries that couldn't come.  Or...they went to a bigger rodeo.  But, they kept it moving right along and we were home about 10:00.  That's fairly early for a rodeo.

More banner

I actually loved how the banner turned out...especially after I got it hung up.  I have a little nook above our dining room table, so I put the "love" that I borrowed from Merlynn up there, along with some cans that had "K" and "B" on them.  I put candy in the buckets to go with the "sweet" theme.  I put photos of Keven & Braquel on the banner. I absolutely loved the photos that Robin took.  I didn't know if Braquel would let me use them...or if she was waiting for the invitations to go out first, but she said she didn't mind.  Things were starting to come together for the shower...finally.  I'll share more tomorrow...or the next day...or the day after...whenever I get time.
Today we're going to ride horses and work around the yard.  Tomorrow Jeff says he's going shooting with a friend, so maybe I'll get time to do a little scrapbooking for a change.  I am going to alter dresses for Braquel's bridesmaids and the flower girls also.  Busy time.

Banner for Braquel's shower

I wanted to carry the theme of "Sweet Love" through to Braquel's wedding shower.  Since I had used the Love Sweet Love on the invitations.  I thought I could make a banner and hang it above the table with the "sweets" on it.  This was the triangles that I started with.  I'll share what it ended up looking like later.
We had a fun time at the shower.  At least I did.  Hope everyone else did too.  We had a pretty nice crowd and she got lots of wonderful things.
Thanks to everyone that came and made it so successful.  All my family.

August exchange card #4

I liked how this card turned out also.  I enjoyed piecing the rainbow scraps for the background.  I zig-zagged around each piece, which took a while.  But, I thought it turned out pretty cute.  Hard on sewing machine needles though.
I got the idea for this card from the front of a magazine I got in the mail.  It all just takes time....but it's relaxing to me.
