Technique 36

This was done with alchol inks again, on a transparency. You apply the ink or a couple of colors of inks to an applicator, dab it on the shiny side of the transparency, and then sprinkle (spritz or splatter with a paint brush) rubbing alchol. It's okay, but sort of messy to suit me.

Technique 35

My technique doesn't show real well, because the photo sort of covered up most of it. The idea was to lay something down on your card and spray paint over it. I laid down paper clips, used my shimmer mist (I'm just not into spray paint) and then used a paper clip to put the photo on with. It turned out cute, and I can see some possibilities.

I liked the texture of this spider web in the grasses at Malad Gorge. I think I could probably focus a little better, but I liked how it turned out.

This is Lower Salmon Falls dam. Isn't the color of the water pretty? The dark spot was alot of algae. We were really impressed with the colors.

Last night we had a huge rainstorm. Coming home from work, it hit and I had my wipers on high and could barely see. I had to go about 35 mph because of all the water on the road. The wind blew over my black wrought iron planter and broke one pot and unpotted two of the other planters. Now all my soil is in the grass.

This past weekend

Robin came down Friday evening, and Danelle, Janell, Robin, and I all scrapped and worked on the retreat for the evening. About 1:00 a.m.....I'm really too old for this kind of stuff, we gave it up. On Saturday morning, Jeff wanted to leave by a little after 6:00, so I'm up at 5:00 getting his stuff ready. Then I couldn't go back to sleep, so I worked on more scrapping stuff. When Robin got up and we were ready, we went on a "road trip". Robin wanted to practice scenery photography, and she started teaching me more about using the "manual" mode on my camera. So some of my photos are way over exposed...but I'll learn...sooner or later. Thanks Robin for spending the weekend with me. It's was a terrific time.

Our first stop was Malad Gorge...that was after we stopped at WalMart for new tennis shoes! We knew we could be doing some hiking. Isn't this beautiful? I had stopped here years ago, but not since they made it a State Park. I was impressed with it. There was some crazy lady there that kept going out on the edges inside of staying where she was supposed to, and Robin and I both were afraid we'd end up trying to save her.

When I went the last time, you couldn't cross the gorge, so I had no idea there was a water falls. Now, you can hike up a trail and look back at this beautiful falls.

More BBQ photos

Sammy is a boy/boy. When he came to my house one day, he went into the bathroom and was there for a long time. Jason went to check on him, and he wanted to know which soap was for boys. I have a wire holder that has liquid hand soap and lotion in it, and he didn't want to mess up and use the "girl" stuff. He loves playing rough...wrestling...he loves playing anything with a ball. He's competitive and before long, he'll be able to take care of all those sisters he has. Don't you love that cheesy grin...every time you tell him to smile for a photo...that's what you get.

Lindsay was babysitting a dog...Marcy and Perry's..and the kids were all fascinated with him. Lindsay is doing cheer again this year. Mikayla (to the left) is working alot. She is changing water for Larry, cleaning at the hotel in Albion, and cleaning for me. I think she babysits sometimes also.

Ivy looks real happy to pose doesn't she? She is sunburned too. Brooke has grown pretty tall this summer, and is growing up. Ivy has been coming out and helping us with the colt, and we're getting to know her more. She's pretty quiet, and I'm hoping she enjoys coming out.

Last night Reta and I went to Oakley to the play, Bye Bye Birdie. I had forgotten how cute it was. The actors were awesome, and really put their hearts into it. If you get the chance to go see it, do.

Treven

Treven is such a wonderful boy. He just has a hold on my heart. This photo shows his smile that I just love. He's enjoying an ice cream bar out to Vern and Reta's at my birthday BBQ.

BBQ

Reta had the food all set up outside, with the drink and the cups on a little table. Ellie just kept getting more cups and having a great time. She also put rocks in them. She was very entertaining for the rest of us.

A week ago, Vern & Reta held a BBQ at their home for my birthday. She invited my whole family, which was so cool.

Steph & Dave came from Gooding with Lindsay and Brooke, Gary & Danelle and their family came, Jason & Sally and all of their kids came, and she even invited my mother and Tori was home so she went. It was great fun. I think it was probably overwhelming for her to feed so many though. She is a sweetheart and I just love her. I'll try to post a few more photos from there because I have so many grandkids and I like showing them off.

Kylie and Whitney's birthday party

Whitney and Kylie shared a family get together for their birthday this year. It was beautiful weather, and Sally fixed a great meal. Whitney asked for sweet and sour chicken with rice, and it was super good. I gave the girls great, big squirt guns, bubble blowers, foam tubes, and a double slip & slide. So naturally, it all ended in a big water fight.

Ellie is walking all over the place, and she was really busy...mostly stealing Kylie's drinks. Kylie wasn't quite sure what to do about it either.

This was my favorite photo. I loved how she put her hand on her hip. I thought the dress was so festive and cute. All the photo's turned out well because of the bright colors.

This technique was to make a crayon rubbing for a background. I had a folder that holds the state quarters, so I used that under the card and colored over it. Since the photo is of Ellie on her first birthday, I put the number 1 in some of the circles. She was really getting into this cupccake...

#33 was to use paper that you just have lying around the house. Clear back when C.J. was in the high school band, he brought tons of sheet music home thinking I could use it. I've made countless backgrounds with it, thrown away a bunch, and still have a stack...so I decided that would make a good background for the photo of Chris playing his saxaphone. Isn't he just the cutest?

I think this could be a cool technique, but I'm not sure that what I did was cool...know what I mean? I always think of better ways to do something after I've done it, so it may be worth another try. Not bad, but not exactly my style either.

Layout from camp scrap

This was the last layout sketch from the camp scrap's first week. The photos are of Taylor cooking a cake and decorating it. For Christmas last year, he wanted a cook book, so I got him one and made him an apron. Robin tells me he is still loving to cook and does alot of the desserts for them.

Cards for exchange in July

I saw this card on the internet (well, one sort of like it) and scraplifted it. The theme for July was Thank You cards.

The colors don't show as well on here, but this was a real pretty sort-of melon color.

I liked this flowered paper when I saw it at the scrapbook store and had to think of a way to use it.

Sorry, this photo wasn't very clear. Next time I'll try to focus better.

Technique 31

The techniques this week were fairly simple compared to some of the past ones. With this technique, you painted your card with acrylic paint and while it was still wet, you scratched a design or quotation into it. It actually turned out better than I thought it might. It could be used for embellisments pretty easily. Of course, it would help if I could draw better. I'm not much of a doodler.

My summer layout for the retreat challenge

I should have had this posted in the middle of the week, but we had inventory this week and I was a little busy. Besides, I had a hard time doing this layout because none of my photos looked even remotely close to summer. So far, until last week, we really hadn't had any hot weather first of all. And even though we did this riding over the 4th and it was fairly warm, we look all bundled up because it's chilly riding the bikes at 9000 feet...It was fun to get a layout done that was pretty recent though.

Layout three

This is the next sketch in the class that Jan's taking. I really liked how it turned out and I loved how you could use some scraps. I'm always looking for ways to use scraps.
Tonight we had a BBQ out to Vern & Reta's. She said it was for my birthday, and she invited the Gibbon's, the Jones' and the Nelson's, as well as my mother and Tori. It was great food and great comany and we enjoyed ourselves alot. That was so sweet of her to do. Jeff couldn't figure out why I got such special treatment...after all I'm only a daughter-in-law!

Technique 29 and 30

I've used this technique on cards before. You just stamp with versa-mark or embossing ink, and use clear embossing powder over it. I also made the flower embellisment the same way.

This was supposed to be done as a watermark. I have Microsoft office 2007 and I could not find watermark anywhere. I finally just used the blur 50% but it really only blurred the outer edges. I am thinking I am need to take a class on Office 2007 because I can't seem to find everything in Excel anymore either. I love this photo that Robin took of Taylor with the tomato's they grew and made salsa with.

Janell challenges me

As I've said before, Janell is taking a class at Big Picture Scrapbooking, and they had some sketches and ideas for layouts. I've shown the first one, this is the 2nd one of the class. I had so many awesome photos from my birthday last year, that I wanted to scrap alot of them. This layout let me use quite a few of the people who came out for the party. Not nearly all of them, but some....thanks Danelle for the photo's.

Technique 28

Perfect glitter every time. I'm not sure glitter is EVER perfect. I always get it all over me, all over my table, all over the floor...It's a good thing I have such a sparkling personality. I know...bad joke. Anyway, she suggested using a school type glue and thinning it with a couple drops of water. Okay...works for me.

Technique 26 and 27

Technique 27...you put string on a piece of chipboard, then cover it with your card. Use your bone blade to go over it. It's like dry embossing. Not crazy about it.

Technique 26 was super simple. You just used glaze pens to journal. I used the paper I had made back on another technique for the background. This is "Elli-phant", at Halloween last year.

#24 and #25

I loved this technique. I've painted behind journaling on a transparency before, but I hadn't really thought about making my own embellisments. Everyone knows I'm a saver, and of course, I'd saved lots of small pieces of transparencies. Guess what! I got to use them. I painted some purple and some yellow, drew my flowers (freehand...I'm sure you can tell) and cut them out. I layered them on a transparency that I had painted and wrote a favorite quote on. I can think of all kinds of things to do with this tip.

I really liked this technique also. You cropped your photo to the size you wanted, then put sticky tape (a sheet would work better than the tape I used). Then removed the top layer and cover with clear micro beads. Then you brayer it to make sure the beads are embedded. I thought snow photos would look pretty cool like this, and I really did like the outcome.

This technique was very time consuming, but I sort of like how it turned out. You crumple tissue paper, approx. double the size of what you want to cover. Then you modge podge the card, open the tissue and layover it while still wet. Let dry. Then paint with a darker shade, let dry. Then using a light shade, hit just the high spots. I added a half transparency that I had left over, which shows up much better in the photo than it does in real life. Anyway, this photo is of all the shoes at my front door on Christmas Eve. Gotta love all the kids that go with them.

Loved this. I laid lace down on my card and then used glimmer mist over it. But my favorite part is the little girl that's such an angel. I used pens to color the flower on her head and on her dress since it was a black and white photo. Isn't she just the cutest thing ever?

Technique 21

Not entirely sure that I really liked this one. I suppose it could be interesting. Maybe use real leaves to stamp with instead of using cut out ones like a mask. The instructor had used lace and brayered paint over it. Just couldn't get into that one. She had used some things to stamp with that you just have around the house...a cookie cutter, a potato masher, etc.

Tatted snowflakes

Last year at the auction, Jodi and I fought over tatted snowflakes by Doris. These are the three she just gave me for my birthday. I love them! Thanks sis!

Good morning July 10th

This is where we turned around. You can tell we're pretty high up, and that Jeff was worried about the 4-wheeler running away...see how he has it turned into the mountain?

We have to measure all our wire for inventory today. I've been up since 4:30 and have just a second to load another photo from our vacation. We are starting work at 6:00 a.m. to try and miss the heat of the day since there is no air conditioning in our warehouse. And the back room gets very warm...very quickly. Anyway, it's only one Saturday a year so I can't really complain.

Well, I 'm nearly out of techniques that I've done so far. After being on vacation, I've got to get busy and get caught up again. I am really enjoying this class. I know it's hard to keep everything up during the summer. What with work, yard work, 4-wheeling, the horses, camping, BBQ's, etc.etc. It's really hard to find time to scrapbook. But, I've found that if I don't get my creative fix...I'm in a world of hurt.

Antelope Creek Pass

This pass was on the way up to Antelope, and I believe it was called Sheep Pass. The elevation was at 7500 feet. If we had made it all the way up to Antelope Pass, the elevation is right at 9000 feet. Still quite a bit of snow.

We wanted to ride up Antelope Pass, because we'd heard about it, but never been there. Jeff thought we could make it, but some people at the guard station thought it was still snowed in. We thought we'd go as far as we could though. We didn't quite make it to the top. We probably had about one more switchback is all. The wind was blowing about 80mph and Jeff told me he just had a bad feeling, so we turned around and came back down.

On Sunday, we read in the paper that a man and his wife, from Blackfoot, crashed right near where we were. It killed the man, and they had to life flight the lady to Pocatello. I guess it happened about 2 hours after we were up there, and it was after six when they finally got her air lifted out. We saw a couple come down and go to a ranch house as we were leaving...it wasn't until Sunday when we ran into them, that they told us they had come down to call for help. It was the same couple we had talked to about going over the pass that morning.

The other thing that was weird, is that the lady was from Paul, and I had known her famiy when I was younger. Small world, huh?

I thought this technique was pretty fun. I have a zillion stamps, but I've never been real crazy about using them in my scrapbooking. I use them on cards, but felt they were too "flat" for my layouts. When you stamp on a transparency though, and then cut it out, it seemed to give it some dimension. I actually was pretty excited about that. I'll have to actually try a large layout soon.

Janell signed up for a class and has been kind enough to share the sketches with me. I dug out some photos that Robin had given me of the boys and did the first couple of them. Thought I'd share them with you. I really liked how they turned out.

Technique #18

I was going to show you how you finish the cards that I've been doing. Every Friday she gives you "recipe" cards to print out. You then put them on the back of the technique card so you can remember how you did it.

I wasn't real excited about this technique. I only have two or three alcohol inks, and two of them wouldn't even mix up anymore. So I stamped my image and then spritzed it instead, and then put gold alcohol ink over that. It didn't turn out too bad. This was my second effort though, because I ruined the first one trying to get my inks to work.
